Sexing
Sexing Bearded Dragons is generally very easy once they are old enough. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email Us.

Bearded Dragons can usually be reliably sexed from around 6-9 months of age. Due to this, we don't offer a 100% guarantee on the sexes of our Dragons - only our best guess. Some Dragons much younger than that can be sexed reliably, as shown further down the page.
To sex a Dragon, gently lift its tail up to around 90 degrees. Don't lift any further than this, or you risk damaging its spine. We find it easiest if you hold the Dragon in your left hand, with the head facing away from you, and use your right hand to lift the tail.
Males:
Male Bearded Dragons have Hemi-Penal Bulges either side of the base of their tail, right after the vent. These are two of our adult males, which clearly show the Hemi-Penes:

Male babies are generally easier to sex than females are. This is one of our 2007 babies, aged 3 months. Already, it is clear to see that it is a male:

Females:
Females are a little harder to be 100% sure of, particularly when younger. They do not have Hemi-Penal bulges, and instead may have a slight, more centralised bulge, right after the vent. In adults, it is the lack of Hemi-Penes which gives it away. In babies, it is usually the central bulge which is obvious, but then gets less pronounced as the Dragon grows:

This is a 4 month old juvenile female for comparison:
