The Translucent (aka "Trans") morph in Bearded Dragons appears to cause a reduction or lack of white pigment in the outer layers of skin, causing those layers to become partially see-through. This gives Trans Dragons a very unusual skin tone, along with jet-black eyes.

Younger Trans Dragons tend to show this effect to an extreme, although it's perfectly visible in older Dragons, such as this female:

Lower-quality Trans Dragons may only show partially-black eyes or partially translucent skin. Higher-quality Dragons will show two jet-black eyes and transparent skin all over their bodies. Like the other "simple" traits, Trans is compatible with other morphs.

The Trans gene was actually discovered several years ago, but unfortunately in a very weak genetic line. A lot of hard work (mostly in the US) has led to the robust, high-quality Translucent bloodlines available today.

We should have Translucent and het Translucent babies available for much of 2010. Check out our Future Plans to see what projects are coming up.
